CNN —Close relatives of people with treatment-resistant depression are nine times more likely to develop depression that also does not respond to traditional treatment, a new study found. For people with treatment-resistant depression, also known as TRD, standard treatments such as psychiatric therapy and antidepressants may not work well, if at all. Being aware that treatment-resistant depression runs in families can help with early treatment options, experts say. First-degree relatives of people with TRD, which include parents, siblings and children, were nine times as likely to develop treatment-resistant depression and were at high risk of all-cause death and death by suicide compared with relatives of people without TRD, the study found. “So, this is a very welcome study indeed and goes someway to addressing the massive underrepresentation of Asian people in studies.”

Only the driver can hear the call and the person on the other end of the call can’t hear the music playing in the SUV. That’s not a new idea, but headrest speakers are usually found in convertibles where music, phone calls and navigation instructions have to overcome buffeting wind noise. Meanwhile, the person on the other end of the phone call won’t hear the music at all. I could hear Dunn talking but the voice on the other end of the phone came through, at first, as just an intermittent quiet buzz. I could hear Dunn talking to me but not the music that was still playing in the car.

The new six-part mini-series “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live,” the latest installment in the sprawling “Walking Dead” universe, premieres Sunday on AMC and AMC+. It finds Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reprising their longtime roles as Rick Grimes and Michonne, the weathered survivors of a postapocalyptic wasteland populated by flesh-devouring zombies. “The Ones Who Live” picks their story up where it left off in the original series, revealing what happened to the couple after they exited the show. But it also involves other characters, settings and organizations that have either appeared or been mentioned in “The Walking Dead” and its spinoffs, including the dystopian city the Civic Republic, its high-tech military the C.R.M., and the slippery villain Jadis, played by Pollyanna McIntosh. (For their part, Lincoln and Gurira have said that they didn’t keep up with the whole series either, so you’re in good company.)

I spent the bulk of my Friday column summarizing early Republic and antebellum debates on the nature of the American Republic. The arguments run from Thomas Jefferson and James Madison in the 1790s to Abraham Lincoln in the 1860s. Speaking of Lincoln, researching that column gave me an excuse to read through a few of his most famous speeches and addresses. They organized speeches, debates, lectures and dramatic performances and brought in notable persons to participate. Some of these were tied to a particular town or city; others were operations that moved from place to place.

There were few surprises from the British Academy, with strong awards season favorites faring well, including Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” with 11 nominations and Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” with nine. Standing out from the crowd was “The Zone of Interest,” Jonathan Glazer’s unique film about the Holocaust, which achieved nine nominations. “Barbie” received nods in five categories, including Margot Robbie for best actress, but did not land a best picture nomination. The zoning changes doubled the size of houses allowed in Hogg Hummock. Black residents say larger homes in the community will lead to property tax increases that they won’t be able to afford. He added that their lawsuit “is wholly silent on the topic.”Attorneys for the Hogg Hummock landowners who are suing did not immediately return an email message seeking comment Thursday. About 30 to 50 Black residents still live in Hogg Hummock, founded by former slaves who had worked the island plantation of Thomas Spalding. Well over 100 Hogg Hummock residents and landowners packed those meetings to voice objections, but were given just one chance to speak to the changes.

Impossible is often just a starting point on a Christopher Nolan film and “Oppenheimer,”about the father of the atomic bomb, was no exception. She told them at the time that if there were ever a zombie apocalypse, they were the people she’d want to be with. “Every day there’s something that happens and you have to figure out a way out of it. It was the perfect claustrophobic, unglamourous and period-specific setting for a humiliating ordeal designed to make Oppenheimer feel small. An FDIC supervisor invited his staff to a strip club, according to a report from WSJ. The Journal interviewed over 100 current and former FDIC staff about the agency's culture. The Journal's report details instances where a supervisor invited staff to a strip club and male workers sent their female colleagues unsolicited nude pictures. In 2020, the organization's inspector general criticized the FDIC's investigations into sexual harassment, calling them "decentralized, untimely, incomplete, and inaccurate," the Journal reported. Still, the DeSantis campaign remains adamant that the race is far from settled and the timing of these recent broadsides is coming as 2024 is only just now coming into focus for many voters. “The time for contrast was not over the summer when the government was going after (Trump),” said Ryan Tyson, a senior adviser to DeSantis’ campaign. Club for Growth president David McIntosh recently warned about the potential pitfalls of attacking Trump too aggressively. “Every traditional post-production ad attacking President Trump either backfired or produced no impact on his ballot support and favorability,” McIntosh wrote. Kharlan’s disqualification threw into sharp relief the political and organizational jeopardy that France and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is facing ahead of the Games. So far, no decision has been taken on Russian and Belarusian athletes’ participation at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
